Cynthia L. Henderson, Darlene P. Kelly, Joe Swanson, Beverly E. Allen, and Xiomara Arango, Morehouse School of Medicine, Multi-Media Center, Atlanta, GA.
Purpose: This paper outlines the steps taken by the Multi-Media Center at Morehouse School of Medicine to provide electronic book access to Multi-Media Center Users from three very different aggregators: MD Consult, Books at Ovid and Stat Ref.
Setting: The Multi-Media Center serves the Faculty, Students and Staff of the Morehouse School of Medicine located in Atlanta, GA. The recent adoption of a laptop computer requirement by MSM Administration for first year students has prompted the MMC to look at the creation of an electronic book collection as well as the implementation of electronic reserves.
Brief Description: Due to the rapid increase in entering class size there is a need to identify ways to provide increased access to reserves and the collection as a whole. The current policy, which has been in place for the past three years, is to purchase 5 copies of selected reserve titles. This policy will be inadequate to address the needs of the current entering class that has a fifty percent increase in enrollment from three years ago. A number of aggregators were investigated with the final selection being MD Consult, Books at Ovid and Stat Ref.
Conclusion: The final result is the provision of access to over 165 E-Books.
