Poster Abstract
Keyword Indexing: Adding Value to the Moffitt Cancer Network (MCN) Web Project
Sue H. Felber, Coordinator, Medical Library, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, Tampa, FL.
Purpose: This paper will present the implementation, development and growth of the library's keyword indexing project to provide search capability for the MCN web site.
Setting/Participants/Resources: The Moffitt Cancer Network is an online product of the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute and has been developed by team members from information services, web design, educational media, continuing education and library.
Brief Description: The MCN Video Classroom contains scientific presentations on cancer treatment, biology, screening and prevention research. These videos are retrievable by topic as individual presentations or as part of scientific conferences, and carry continuing education credit for physicians or contact hours for nurses. The library's role in MCN has been to add keywords after viewing each presentation, adapt common terms to appropriate Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) as additional index terms, and to check index words for accuracy and word variations.
Results/Outcome: MCN is being marketed to oncology healthcare personnel for continuing education, with live implementation in 2001. The ongoing involvement of library staff continues to be providing keyword indexing, with continual evaluation of terms used.
Evaluation Method: Assessment of terms for accuracy, MeSH cross-references and appropriateness will continue with each presentation added to the MCN. Future evaluation of the keyword index will include an analysis of user searches to consider terms requested that are not present and to track frequency of terms requested.
