William W. Stead, M.D., Professor of Medicine and Biomedical Informatics,
Director of the Informatics Center, Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs,
Vanderbilt University will speak on "New Directions for the Profession."
Dr. Stead will be anchoring his presentation on the model he presented at the
Joseph Leiter NLM/MLA Lecture he gave on May 28, 1997 (published as
"Positioning the library at the epicenter of the networked biomedical enterprise."

Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University,
will speak on "Medical Librarian Training: the Vanderbilt Experience."

MLA President-Elect and Director, Claude Moore Health Sciences Library,
University of Virginia Health System, will present the MLA update.
Jean P. Shipman,
Informationist Conference Chair & Director, Tompkins-McCaw Health Sciences Library, Virginia Commonwealth University,
will report on the MLA/NLM Informationist Conference and next steps. Janice Kelly, Executive Director, NN/LM-Southeastern Atlantic Region,
will provide an update of Regional activities and initiatives.
