Welcome to the Eskind Biomedical Library’s Evidence-Based Knowledge Portal. This site is designed to introduce concepts of evidence-based medicine to information professionals and clinicians. Development of this resource was supported through a grant from the National library of Medicine (5 R01 LM07849).

Tool components:

EBM Readiness Assessment
Assessments allow clinicians and information professionals to evaluate their attitudes towards and readiness to make changes related to incorporating principles of EBM/EBM support. After completing an assessment that examines personal attitudes towards and institutional factors affecting EBM as well as objective epidemiology/study design knowledge, users are presented with an analysis of their perceptions about EBM and recommendations for further learning. Users can take assessments multiple times, saving and storing their results to gauge their progress on subsequent visits.

EBM Principles Tutorial (Requires Macromedia Flash Player)
Interactive demonstrations cover the basics of targeting an information need, locating relevant information, and assessing the appropriateness and quality of evidence for clinical questions.

Virtual Practice Cases (Requires Macromedia Flash Player)
Problem based cases present users with a patient context and clinical information need and demonstrate the processes of locating and assessing evidence to make patient care decisions.

Evidence Summary Generator (Requires Adobe Acrobat)
This dynamic tool allows users to create evidence summaries addressing the key aspects of clinical studies.

Please note that user responses to questions in the Evidence Based Knowledge Portal are stored for further analysis; however, email/VUNET ID information is not linked to responses in any analyses. All responses are anonymous.
