Activities and Projects

Knowledge Management
Interns participate in developing and improving Knowledge Management working with tools such as the Digital Library and the Learning Module Shell.

Clinical Rounding Teams
Library Interns participate in medical rounding and research teams with EBL Clinical Information specialists. The focus areas in which they round are:

  • Medical Intensive Care Unit
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
  • Trauma
  • Clinical Research Center
  • Emergency Medicine

Patron Training and Orientations
Teach resources to interested patrons and new users in scheduled training sessions.

Information Desk
Provide patron services at library service points.

Collection Development
Working with teams, some interns may assist in evaluating and recommending monographs for the library's collection.

Leadership Activities
Interns learn by doing; therefore they are asked to coordinate and lead project teams in areas of interest and in-line with library goals. The Library Director works closely with the interns to mentor their leadership abilities.

Intern Presentations
Interns are asked to present a 30-minute presentation to librarians on a topic chosen in collaboration with the Library Director. Some recent topics include:

  • Art and Science of Ethnography
  • Benchmarking
  • Impact of Evidence Based Medicine
  • Research Informatics Consult Service Business Plan
  • Nation Center for Biotechnology Information Site Visit and Update
  • Implications of Hypermedia in Electronic Journals
  • Digital Library: History and Overview
  • Digital Knowledge Management
  • Video Indexing
  • Record Management: An Introduction and Overview
  • Evidence Based Medicine on the Web
  • Knowledge Management
  • Patients and Information: What They Want and How They Want It
  • Bioinformatics
  • The Impact of Computer Aided Instruction (CAI) on Librarianship
  • Innovative Functionalities of Digital Libraries
  • The Records Inventory Process: A Necessary Evil
  • Records Retention
