Library Catalogs

Information for VUMC faculty, staff and students

Check all the catalogs (ACORN, KUDZU (formerly IRIS), Athena, and netLibrary) to find books available to you.

ACORN
Acorn is the collective library catalog of the nine Vanderbilt University Library divisions. It lists all books, journals, and electronic resources accessible at VU.
KUDZU (formerly IRIS)
The library consortium formerly called IRIS has expanded its membership to 13 research libraries and is now known as KUDZU. Libraries participating in this cooperative effort with Vanderbilt include the following: University of Kentucky, University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Auburn University, Clemson University, Mississippi State University, Tulane University, University of Alabama at Birmingham, University of Louisville, University of Mississippi, University of South Carolina, Virginia Commonwealth University and Wake Forest University. VUMC students, staff, and faculty may borrow materials from these libraries at no charge. Materials borrowed from University of Tennessee at Knoxville and University of Kentucky will be delivered with an expedited delivery service.
Athena
Athena is a virtual library catalog of Nashville area academic, school, and public libraries. VUMC students, staff, and faculty may borrow materials from these libraries at no charge and with an expedited delivery service.
netLibrary
Over 14,000 electronic books are available for checkout to Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff from the purchased shared access to this collection of electronic books. When you reach the netLibrary homepage you can search the collection of ebooks by keyword, author, title, publisher, library of Congress subject heading or other terms. You can also browse the text of ebooks, search within a selected ebook, or "Preview" a book --browse the title for up to 15 minutes without limiting access for others.

To 'read' a book, you will need to check it out, and that process requires establishing an account in the netLibrary database. The checkout period is for two hours. A User Account allows you access to the ebook collection from outside the library via the Internet, 7 days a week and 24 hours a day.

For help in getting started using ebooks, please refer to the "Help" section of the netLibrary website. This section will give you information about using the site, reading and searching ebooks.
