Electronic Resources

The Digital Library is the primary access point for electronic resources critical to the medical center. This portal provides links to clinical, research and professional resources including online journals, electronic books, databases and Websites. The Digital Library also links to other VUMC services such as StarChart, WizOrder and email. Detailed resource descriptions assist users in choosing the resource best suited to their need and provides technical and functional specifications for using the resource. Interface options allow users to display resources by title, subject, format or collection. Other notable features are:

search mechanisms
a QuickLinks list enabling fast, easy access to the most highly used resources
a Recent Additions list to notify users of new and updated titles

Acorn, the library's online catalog, also includes records for all electronic resources to which the library provides access, with links to these resources.

Remote Access to Digital Library Resources

Due to license agreements, many of the library's electronic resources may only be accessed from workstations within VUMC or by remotely dialing into the VU network with an authorized VUnet ID. The VUaccess service provides Vanderbilt staff, faculty and students with dial-in capabilities. Authorized users subscribing to an outside Internet Service Provider (ISP) need only their VUnet ID. The proxy service is now seamless. More information
