Vanderbilt Memory & Alzheimer’s Center Guest Lecture Series - Dr. Alison Goate

Genetics Of Late Onset Alzheimer’s Disease: What Have GWAS And Genome-Wide Sequencing Taught Us?

The Vanderbilt Memory & Alzheimer's Center would like to announce our May lecturer in the VMAC Guest Lecture Series, Dr. Alison Goate.

Dr. Goate is a Professor of Neuroscience, and Director of the Center on Alzheimer's Disease. Her laboratory studies the molecular genetics of dementias and addiction in human populations.

Genetic studies of Alzheimer’s disease have provided mechanistic insight into the disease. Early onset AD genetics has implicated metabolism of APP and Aß production as a key pathologic change. Recent genome-wide association studies and whole genome/exome sequencing in late onset AD has implicated several genes essential for normal microglial function. She will review the evidence for specific genes and discuss mechanistic links between these genes.
