Mindfulness is a way of learning to relate directly to whatever is happening in your life, a way of taking charge of your life, a way of doing something for yourself that no one else can do for you — consciously and systematically working with your own stress, illness, and the challenges and demands of everyday life. The MBSR course schedule consists of eight weekly classes and one day-long class on a Saturday. This highly participatory, practical course includes:

“Building Sustainable Partnerships in Latin America” will feature Peter Rohloff, M.D., Ph.D., the director and co-founder of Wuqu' Kawoq | Maya Health Alliance, who will share his experiences in developing partnerships in health with NGOs in Guatemala and then highlight a student panel who will talk about their internships and clinical rotations in Central America. Everyone interested in working in Latin America is invited to join in the discussion of ways to create sustainable collaborations with many of our Latin American partners and to learn about opportunities for internships.
The Safe Patient Handling/Smooth Moves Champion Program is offered by the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Department of Nursing Education and Development and the Occupational Health Clinic. This program offers 4 contact hours. The Occupational Health Clinic’s Smooth Moves Champion Class is designed to train selected champions who serve as consultants to their coworkers and use their skill to provide ongoing training to the unit staff. Champions attend a 4 hour class to become experts at safe patient handling.
