Hints and Suggestions for Printing to the Codonics Printer

For a single image (cartoon, photograph, etc. No text.)

using Adobe Photoshop, NIH Image, Zeiss LSM, JPEGview, etc.

  1. Save as tiff, gif, or jpeg format
  2. Name with DOS restrictions ( "8.3" no spaces or slashes, etc... e.g. cell25.tif or cell25.jpg)
  3. Send to Scaled device (2) for full-page size
If you want a specific size (e.g. 4 inches wide)
Calculate how many pixels it has to be, at 300 dpi. (e.g. 1200 pixels wide).
Save it at that size / resolution
Send to Unscaled device (1).

How can I print from PowerPoint (or Adobe Pagemaker, QuarkXpress, Canvas, Word etc.)?

>> You must first create a postscript file out of document.
  1. Make sure you've only used fonts listed listed in the Codonics On-Line Manual.
  2. Choose "Print" for your file.
  3. Mac: In the upper right hand side for "Destination" choose "File" from the pull-down menu.
PC: On the right hand side of the Print dialog screen check the box labeled "Print to File"
  4. Print only single pages (e.g. "From 1 To 1") of your document
  5. Click OK
  6. Name file (be sure that the filename ends in ".ps") and Save
>> Now you can print this "postscript file " via the web page or ftp as you would normally.

Problems with contrast and brightness? Try sending a bracketing print of a simple image.

Remember that the fewer manipulations your image undergoes, the better it will look.

Still having trouble? Full instructions are on the printer's built-in web page, and the manual is in 742LH
