Other News

Since 2000, the Cell Imaging Shared Resource (CISR) has experienced significant growth, particularly in adding six new laser scanning confocal microscopes.  With each new purchase, we negotiated extra years of “free” service contracts, and this has allowed us to maintain the same hourly use charges since January 2001. Unfortunately, these operating costs must now be balanced through increased user charges.

Effective February 1, 2008, the new charge for microscope time will be $35/hour.  This rate is still less expensive than most other institutions, especially considering comparable equipment and expertise, and represents an increase that is comparable to the inflationary rate over the last seven years.  We look forward to continuing to work with all of you on your exciting scientific projects, and thank you for your support of the CISR.

The University of South Carolina is hosting the 4th annual Basic Confocal Microscopy course June 16-20, 2008. Dr Jay Jerome, Director of Vanderbilt's Research Electron Microscopy Resource, will be one of the featured speakers at this year's course. Please click here for more details.
