Disseminating a Safety Strategy: Strategies and Incentives for Improving Quality and Reducing Risk
Target Audience
Leaders in medicine, nursing, risk management, and legal affairs.
Overview
This presentation will focus on how to disseminate safety strategies in organizations by focusing on the way in which an early reporting, morbidity, mortality, and improvement conference, and disclosure strategy initiative has been incorporated at VUMC via linkage to a malpractice insurance rebate program. The goal is to answer the question: How do you ensconce a safety strategy in your organization? Recruiting appropriate champions, ensuring institution-wide incorporation, training trainers, program certification and assessment, and incentives (malpractice insurance rebates) will be discussed in light of the VUMC safety strategy initiative.
Learning Objectives
- Describe an incentive-based safety strategy initiative employed at one healthcare organization;
- Apply concepts from the disclosure, MM&I, and early reporting strategy initiative to other safety strategy initiatives;
- Discuss ways to embed safety strategies in participants' healthcare organization.
