Vanderbilt University Medical Center recognizes that its 11,000 faculty, staff and students are dramatically affected by its surrounding neighborhood. VUMC and the community share many common goals. VUMC values collaboration between the faculty/staff and the community as a foundation for developing programs that will lead to an improved quality of community life.
The Vision of VUMC Community Initiatives is that, over time, Nashvillians will enjoy a safer, more attractive living environment; better schools; broader job opportunities; and greater access to health care as a result of their relationship with VUMC. In the process of achieving this vision, VUMC will benefit from a more secure and attractive campus for students and faculty, a greater diversity of academic programming, a seamless integration into the community and a deeper appreciation for the richness of the social and economic diversity of the Nashville Community.
The Department of Client and Community Relations was created by the Vice Chancellor of Health Affairs to provide special services to the constituency of the University and Medical Center as they interface with the VUMC healthcare system.
