About Kim: Kim Unertl is a doctoral student in the Vanderbilt University Department of Biomedical Informatics. She studied Biomedical Engineering at Marquette University, where she received Honors BS degree in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on Electrical Engineering. After graduation, Kim joined Abbott Laboratories where she worked on various hospital laboratory diagnostic system design teams in a variety of roles including software development, electrical engineering, and field service support. She completed a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt in December 2006, focusing on workflow and information flow in chronic disease care. Her doctoral project focuses on the impact of health information exchange technology on patient care in the setting of the MidSouth eHealth Alliance in Memphis, TN. Her primary interests are people and organizational issues related to health information technology.

About Edward: Edward received a Masters of Science in Public Health from Meharry Medical College of Nashville, TN, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Morehouse College. Currently as a CPRQ Research Assistant, Edward is involved with the PACU Handoff project to evaluate and improve communication and coordination between nurses and physicians during hospital-based transitions of care. He also is involved with various, local volunteer activities and continues to invest time and effort in community development.
