Theodore Speroff, Ph.D.

Ted Speroff is a Ph.D. graduate of the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Program of Case Western Reserve University; he has another Ph.D. in cognitive-developmental experimental psychology and a M.S. in mathematical statistics. Dr. Speroff is Professor with Tenure in the Vanderbilt University Departments of Medicine, Preventive Medicine, and Biostatistics. Dr. Speroff is chief of the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System Center for Health Services Research, a VA Senior Scholar and Associate Director of the Nashville site of the VA National Quality Scholars Fellowship Program, a member of the VA HSR&D scientific review and evaluation board, and a mentor of several young Vanderbilt faculty with career development awards. He is Associate Director of the Vanderbilt Center for Patient Safety and Director of the Clinical Improvement and Operations Research Unit within the Vanderbilt Center for Health Services Research. He is a founding member and a past president of the newly formed professional society Academy for Healthcare Improvement and Deputy Editor for Medical Care. His research interests include health services research and outcomes assessment, continuous quality improvement and patient safety in health care, assessment of patient preferences and clinical decision analysis, patient healthcare behavior, clinical epidemiology, applied clinical informatics for quality measurement, methodological reviews of the literature, and meta analysis. He has extensive experience in health services research and in the conduct of quality improvement projects as well as in advancing the underlying science for clinical quality improvement work. He is also an expert in quality improvement measurement and analysis. He has previously led multi-site, national collaboratives, across large organizations.
