Dr. Kuntz is the Director of Perioperative Education and Research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She serves on a number of perioperative and organizational committees and is responsible for the design, development and dissemination of learning for perioperative staff and faculty. Dr. Kuntz earned a Doctor of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction a from Tennessee State University, a Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Carlow College (now University). She has been with Vanderbilt since 1995 in as an assistant manager on a general medicine unit and as a consultant to the Learning Center while maintaining her RN licensure in Pennsylvania and Tennessee. Prior to joining Vanderbilt, Dr. Kuntz served in the United States Air Force as a nurse in orthopedic and neurosurgery surgery and multispecialty critical care unit. Dr. Kuntz has a number of varied interests to include risk management, improving health care provider communications (particularly handovers), and developing web-based e-learning, for which she is recognized as a leader and innovator. Dr. Kuntz serves as a consultant for patient safety issues and mentors medical and nursing students either in the OR setting or in their respective professional schools and facilitates the evidence based nursing with the perioperative and the greater VUMC setting.
