PHARMACOLOGY Course Description Course work will include both class time and observation within the surgical suite, as well as on the patient wards as warranted. Laboratory participation is an important aspect of perfusion training, and intensive participation in laboratory projects will further expose the student to pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters as they effect both animal/patient models, and how that interaction may affect the conduct of perfusion. Instructor: TBA Required Texts Cardiac Drug Therapy Course Objectives Pharm 501 will provide the detailed foundation and skills that are necessary to understand the interplay between the science of extracorporeal technology and the pharmacologic considerations that play a role in the initiation, maintenance, and termination of extracorporeal circulatory support. Students will understand the basic principles of recognition and diagnosis involved in determining the nature and extent of various pharmacologic interventions that may occur during extracorporeal support.
