Undergraduate Training

Vanderbilt University offers short-term positions for undergraduate students with an interest in biomedical informatics. The goal of the short-term internships is to expose students to the interesting and broad field of biomedical informatics through a project-oriented and practical work experience. The internships are intended for students who are interested exploring whether graduate studies in biomedical informatics aligns with their long-term educational and career goals. Usually the internships are available during the summer semester (3 months). Undergraduate students select a research project for the duration of the internship and work closely with a faculty member.

Prerequisites: All undergraduate students may apply for an internship position; however, a background in programming is an advantage. The specific prerequisites for a research project need to be addressed by the faculty mentor.

Funding: A limited number of National Library of Medicine-funded internship positions are available.

Applications will be available in January 2008.
