The
goal of CBIO 312: Introduction to Developmental
Biology (aka: Boot Camp) is to provide hands-on
experience with the model organisms studied in laboratories across
our campus. With
didactic lectures, laboratory observation and simple experimentation,
we hope to reveal both reoccurring patterns of embryogenesis
and species-specific variation in morphogenesis. Students will
acquire the basic tools needed to compare and contrast
early development
in amphibians, fish, birds, and mammals (maybe even some reptilian
embryos too) as well as understanding the basic mechanisms of insect
embryogenesis.
Since reading is such an integral part of a scientist's life each student will be provided with their own copy of Scott F. Gilbert's 7th edition Developmental Biology. This book will be used throughout Boot Camp and will make a great addition to the student's personal library . |
