RETREAT 16 '9 TO 9' VIDEO

Each year, St. Jude's, UAB, and Vanderbilt attendees pair off in a no-holds barred volleyball game. Bragging rights, and ostentatious trophy, go to the winner. Vanderbilt won the inaugural match up in 2010, with UAB taking the trophy home in '11, and again this year.

2012 PDB Retreat Trophy Goes To Greece

Our 16th Annual Program in Developmental Biology Scientific Retreat, coined 'Retreat 16', was held on Thursday and Friday, September 20th and 21st, at Joe Wheeler Stare Park (Rogersville, AL).

Research and support personnel from Vanderbilt, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham participated in two days of presentations, a late-night poster session, and a very special keynote talk from Scott Gilbert, Ph.D.

Attendees had an opportunity to hear 18 oral presentations and 40 poster presentations from graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from all three participating institutions. The following participants were recognized for their outstanding presentations:

Session I - Graduate Student Talks
Mahesh Rao (Jim Patton Lab, Vanderbilt)

Retina Regeneration Following Targeted Rod Photoreceptor Destruction

Session II - Graduate Student Talks
Jing Liu (Guoqiang Gu, Vanderbilt University Medical Center)

Exploring miRNA-mediated Ngn3 self-regulation in pancreatic islet development

Session III - Graduate Student Talks
Neil Dani (Kendal Broadie Lab, Vanderbilt)

The sweet side of synaptic development: heparan sulfate proteoglycan regulation of WNT and BMP trans-synaptic signaling

Session IV - Graduate Student Talks
Dawn Landis (Brad Yoder Lab, University of Alabama at Birmingham)

Using a novel genetic tag compatible with electron microscopy to determine ultrastructural localization of ciliopathy associated proteins

Session V - Postdoctoral Fellows Talks
