E. Patrick Donahue
2009 Award Recipient
Pat Donahue began working at Vanderbilt shortly after his graduation from University of Southern Mississippi in 1979. He was hired to work in the Diabetes Research and Training Center (DRTC) Amino Acid Core Laboratory that, at the time, was directed by the late Dr. William W. Lacy. The Amino Acid Core was combined several years ago with the Hormone Assay Core of the DRTC to form the Hormone Assay and Analytical Services Core (Director: A. Cherrington, Co-Director: Dr. W. Snead) now co-sponsored by the Mouse Metabolic Phenotyping Center (MMPC) and the DRTC.
Pat is a Senior Research Specialist in this Core. The Core has had several superb directors over the last 28 years and has changed names. The one constant that has kept the original vision of Dr. Lacy on target has been Pat Donahue. He has kept the core on track and has been the vehicle by which the core has evolved to meet the needs of Vanderbilt investigators.
The Edward E. Price Excellence in Basic Research Award is presented annually and is Vanderbilt’s highest honor for technical achievement in basic research. In being named the awardee it was noted that Pat shares three important characteristics with Edward Price, the man for whom the Excellence in Basic Research Award is named. The first is tremendous work ethic. The second is unparalleled quality control. The third characteristic is unwavering persistence in problem solving. The DRTC is very proud to have Pat Donahue amongst its ranks and is grateful to him for his many years of exemplary service.
