Spring 2009, Gerald I. Shulman, M.D., Ph.D. presented the Vanderbilt Discovery Lecture Series lecture entitled: Cellular mechanisms of insulin resistance: "Implications for obesity, lipodystrophy and type 2 diabetes."

Fall 2008, Douglas A. Melton, Ph.D. presented the Irwin B. Eskind Vanderbilt Discovery Lecture. This lecture honored Dr. Eskind and was entitled "Making Pancreatic β cells for Diabetics."
