Thank you for your interest in Vanderbilt’s Clinical Research Center (CRC). Our center is one of 76 NIH-supported CRC facilities throughout the United States. Although the primary purpose of the CRC is to provide clinical research infrastructure to investigators performing NIH-sponsored research, all investigators are encouraged to apply for use of our facilities.

There are many benefits to conducting research on our unit. The resources listed below are available at no charge to Vanderbilt scientists conducting independent hypothesis-driven research. Note that mechanisms are also in place to allow use of facilities for industry-sponsored research assuming costs are borne by sponsors.

  • Room, board, and nursing support for studies requiring inpatient visits
  • Outpatient examination facilities and associated nursing support
  • Nutritional planning and analysis
  • Specialized assays performed in the CRC core laboratories
  • Coverage for many inpatient and outpatient ancillary costs (routine lab and imaging tests)
  • Biostatistical consulting, training, data analysis, sample size calculations
  • Informatics support for data management design and biotechnology
  • Patient recruitment assistance
  • Specialized research equipment
  • Research skills workshops, every Friday from 8-9 A.M.

NIH guidelines require that the Vanderbilt CRC Scientific Advisory Committee review all applications for CRC research. To submit an application, please review, complete and send an electronic protocol application via e-mail attachment to the CRC at CRC@VANDERBILT.EDU

CRC Scientific Advisory Committee meetings are scheduled the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. The CRC requires that all complete proposals be submitted at least two weeks prior to full committee review. Prior to submitting your proposal, I encourage you to meet with the CRC staff to clarify any questions and ensure you will obtain maximum use of the CRC facilities. In particular, I would suggest that you meet with Dr. Paul Harris (our informatics director, 322-6688) and Mr. Dan Byrne (our biostatistician, 322-4228).

The CRC staff is here to serve you and assist with your clinical research needs. Please call me at 343-6499 if you have any questions or suggestions on how we can improve our services.

Sincerely,

David Robertson, M.D.
CRC Director (615) 343-6499
