CRC Nutrition Services Bionutrition Research Diets
The following diets are available in the CRC:
Regular Diets
Menus are written specifically for the CRC by the Research Dietitian. These menus are developed
so that there can be coordination between research meals, therapeutic diets, and the regular menu.
Vegetarian selections are also available. A variety of foods are available and additional foods may
be obtained in the event an individual patient has specific needs beyond what is available. Please
feel free to discuss any additional needs with anyone on the Nutrition Staff.
Research Diets
Research Diets can be developed for any nutrient that can be measured in the laboratory. These Research
Diets may be inpatient or outpatient meals. Outpatient meals are often packed for several days at a time
and the research subject is required to come to the CRC to pick up meals. All research meals are calculated
by the Research Dietitian. A complete nutrient intake analysis is available for all research meals provided.
The Research Dietitian is available to assist investigators with planning and developing research diets and
data collection methods that meet the needs of the individual research protocol.
Standard Research Diets Provided in the CRC
If you would like to use one of diets below, please contact us to discuss your needs and specifications
prior to submission of your protocol:
- No Xanthine Diet
- No Monoamine, Low Tryptophan
- Tyramine Restricted Diet for Use With Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors
In addition, we are frequently asked to modify diets to eliminate natural foods that interfere with metabolism
in one way or another. Some of these diets are listed below. Feel free to contact us regarding these diets and
any changes you may need for your protocol.
Therapeutic Diets
Therapeutic Diets follow the guidelines and specifications of diets at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
However, due to the small size of the CRC Research Kitchen and the staff, we are often able to offer services
that are not available from the Hospital’s Foodservice. If you have special needs or your patient has special
requests, please let anyone on the Nutrition Staff know.
