MastcellA27x4

Slide A27 is a spread of mesentery (areolar connective tissue), mesosalpinx, surrounding the ovary and investing the oviduct. It is fixed in toluidine blue and fuchsin to preserve and stain the granules of mast cells. The mast cells are numerous and are staining deep purple and stand out in comparison to the surrounding pale blue fibroblasts and connective tissue. Look for them first on low power, and then zoom in. Study the mast cells and note their prominent granules, which may obscure the pale nuclei (which stains blue in contrast to the granules).
