Dalley, Ph.D.
Dr. Dalley was appointed Professor in the Department of Cell
Biology and Director of Medical Gross Anatomy at the Vanderbilt School
of Medicine in 1998. This was preceded by 24 years service at the
Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He
received his Bachelor of Science and Doctoral Degree from the
University of Utah. At Creighton, Dr. Dalley was nominated for
the medical students' "Golden Apple Award" for outstanding
teacher 20 times, receiving the award 10 times. He also received
the "Dedicated Teacher Award" and the “Outstanding
Continuing Medical Educator Award” from his peers in the
School of Medicine. His scholarly activity centers on anatomical
education and clinically-applied anatomy. Dr. Dalley is a founding
member of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists, for which
he served double terms as Secretary-Treasurer, followed by terms as
Vice President, President-Elect, President and Past President. Dr. Dalley
serves as an Associate Editor of CLINICAL ANATOMY, the official journal
of the American and British Associations of Clinical Anatomy, and as a
reviewer and educational consultant for other journals and publishing
companies. Dr. Dalley is the Gross Anatomy Specialist on the Board
of Consultants for the Stedman's Medical Dictionaries, the Anatomy
Editor for the Frank H. Netter M.D. Interactive Atlas of Human Anatomy
(CD-ROM), and conceived and served as Content Editor for the Frank
H. Netter M.D. Interactive Atlas of Clinical Anatomy (CD-ROM), nominated
by the Software Publishers’ Association for a Cody Award for Excellence
in Software in the category “Best Debut of the Year” for 1998. He is
co-author, with Dr. Keith Moore, of the 4th edition of the textbook
Clinically-Oriented Anatomy (Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, 1999),
co-author, with Anne Agur, of the 11th edition of Grant’s Atlas (Lippincott,
Williams & Wilkins, in preparation), and Consulting Editor for the 2nd
edition of the Frank H. Netter M.D. Atlas of Human Anatomy (book –
Novartis/ICON, 1997) and. Both Clinically-Oriented Anatomy and the
Netter Atlas have been published in six foreign languages. Since his
transfer to Vanderbilt University, Dr. Dalley has received the Medical
Center’s peer award for Excellence in Teaching and Research in the
category of “Innovations in Educational Programming Proven to be
Effective”, and was nominated for one of the University’s Chairs for
Teaching Excellence.
