
Christopher G. Hughes, MD
Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine
Dr. Christopher Hughes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology Division of Critical Care at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He is Board Certified in Anesthesiology with a Subspecialty Certification in Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Hughes graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed anesthesiology residency and critical care medicine fellowship at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He was one of the initial members of the Benjamin Howard Robbins Scholars Program through the Department of Anesthesiology and received a highly competitive Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research Training Grant. His clinical focus is divided between perioperative anesthesiology and ICU consultancy in the Surgical, Neurological, and Burn ICUs at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In addition, he serves as medical director and ICU consultant for the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System Nashville VA Surgical ICU. Dr. Hughes' primary research interests focus on the examining the role of endothelial dysfunction in organ failure states, including cognitive dysfunction in critical illness, and designing therapeutic regimens that modify endothelial function to improve patient outcomes.
