Eduard E. Vasilevskis, M.D., is a staff physician with the Tennessee Valley VA Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Care Center, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health – Section of Hospital Medicine, and the Center for Health Services Research. He earned his medical degree at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. He then completed residency and chief residency at the University California, San Francisco and completed a health services research fellowship at the Institute for Health Policy Studies and the Divisions of General Internal Medicine and Hospital Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. His recent research efforts have included the development and validation of risk-adjusted quality measures for the purposes of benchmarking performance in intensive care unit as well outcomes research for common acute hospital conditions. He is currently working with the Center of Quality Aging, and the VA Inpatient Evaluation Center (IPEC) to improve efforts in the translation of important clinical research findings into broader clinical practice, with the goal of reducing the burden of delirium and adverse safety events among hospitalized patients. This involves both the testing of quality improvement strategies as well as the development of quality metrics to assess provider / hospital practice.
