Biomarkers
Protein adducts and other modified protein forms may reflect specific
disease processes or drug and chemical toxicity. We are employing mass
spectrometry-based approaches to discover and quantify protein adducts
as biomarkers of type 2 diabetes and other diseases involving inflammation
and systemic oxidative stress. We also are identifying cellular protein
targets that can serve as biomarkers for the formation of reactive electrophiles
involved in chemical toxicity and adverse drug reactions.
