Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)
NOTE: For application year 2009*, the September 2008 MCATs are the latest sets of MCAT scores that will be considered. For waitlisted applicants applying for 2009, January 2009 and February 2009 MCAT scores will be considered. Vanderbilt considers only the most recent set of MCAT scores in our application process.
The Medical College Admission Test is given under the auspices of the Association of American Medical Colleges and is required of applicants to Vanderbilt.
The MCAT is given multiple times during the year at most universities and colleges. Because the examination score is used by medical schools in the selection of applicants, candidates should take the test in the spring prior to the time application is submitted, if possible. Results of the September examination are acceptable, but will delay review of the application until after October 1. However, it is best to take the MCAT when you are most prepared. Vanderbilt takes the most recent MCAT score as that to be used to evaluate a candidate. We will accept MCAT scores taken up to 3 years before matriculation, but not before that time frame.
*Vanderbilt University School of Medicine will accept the September MCAT scores from applicants applying to enter medical school in 2009. Applicants who change their dates for the MCAT must submit their changes to AMCAS. They may also notify the Office of Medical School Admissions at VUSM of the change in their MCAT decision date by e-mailing lindsey.j.huddleston@vanderbilt.edu. Applications are processed strictly according to what is submitted by the applicant on the AMCAS application. If an applicant makes any changes from what was originally submitted on the AMCAS application, he must notify AMCAS and VUSM.
The Vanderbilt University School of Medicine is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
