Admissions Requirements

Letters of Recommendation

A letter of recommendation should be sent from your Premedical Committee or individual Premedical Adviser. If your university does not have this committee, send three letters of recommendation: two from senior faculty members in science departments in which you have studied and one from another person chosen by you.

If you have advanced degrees or at least a year of postgraduate full time employment, it is advisable to ask your supervisor at work or a member of the graduate faculty to send a letter of recommendation.

The Committee on Admissions of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine will evaluate the appropriateness of the source of these letters of recommendation.

If you receive an invitation to interview at Vanderbilt, please have letters of recommendation sent to the Office of Medical School Admissions immediately. It is preferable that letters of recommendation be sent electronically through Virtual Evals, Interfolio and Illinois Letters Online (LEO).

All official credentials including transcripts from foreign universities and letters of recommendation must be sent from the source and cannot be accepted from the applicant. Transcripts and letters of recommendations should be sent to the following address:

Vanderbilt University School of Medicine
215 Light Hall

Academic Requirements

An official college transcript, with bachelor's degree posted when earned, must be received before you can enroll in the first year class.

Applicants must have attended a regionally accredited institution of postsecondary education. AP credits, CLEP credits and Pass/Fail credits may not be used to fulfill ANY of the premedical course requirements. Preparation in foreign universities, in most cases, should be supplemented by a year or more of course work at an approved university in the United States.

The Vanderbilt University School of Medicine is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
