Bio Career Center

The Vanderbilt Medical Alumni Association and the BRET Office of Career Development are pleased to announce that Vanderbilt has joined the Bio Career Center Consortium of Schools, along with Stanford, UCSF, CalTech, University of Pennsylvania, and other front-rank research institutions. With over 400 listings, Bio Career Center is a leader among job boards for MD's and postgraduate life scientists.

Bio Career Center is a career service dedicated to expanding professional options for life sciences MDs and PhDs. The service provides online career resources and job postings to alumni and post-graduate candidates, and recruitment services to employers. From industry articles and assessment tools to relevant job postings, Bio Career Center is a comprehensive career resource center.

Unlike other jobs boards for life scientists, all jobs posted on the Bio Career Center Jobs Board require an advanced degree in the sciences. Job seekers can search for life sciences jobs, create an online resume, and apply for jobs posted by employers. Access to the Bio Career Center Jobs Board is free for all current graduate and medical students, residents, postdoctoral and clinical fellows and alumni of Consortium institutions.

Vanderbilt's membership in the Bio Career Center consortium is co-sponsored by the Vanderbilt Medical Alumni Association and the BRET Office of Career Development. For additional information, contact Dr. Kim Petrie, Director of Career Development for the Office of Biomedical Research Education and Training at kim.petrie@vanderbilt.edu or 615-322-6885, or Dr. Ann Price, Executive Director of Vanderbilt Medical Alumni Affairs at ann.price@vanderbilt.edu or 615-343-6337.

Below are instructions for accessing the Bio Career Center Jobs Board:

  1. Go to http://www.vanderbiltbretcareerdevelopment.org/index.html and click on the Jobs Board link at the upper right of the screen.
  2. In the center of the screen is a "Candidates" section. Click on "Register."
  3. Fill in the fields on the next screen to create a new job seeker account. Use your Vanderbilt email address when registering for a new job seeker account.
  4. As long as you use your Vanderbilt email address to register, your access to the Bio Career Center Jobs Board will be approved by the Jobs Board Administrator (if you currently do not have a valid "vanderbilt.edu" or "alumni.vanderbilt.edu" email address, please see the back of this page). Your access to the Jobs Board will be activated within 48 hours. After your account is activated, you can Login at the Candidate Center (http://jobsboard.biocareercenter.com) using the User Name and Password you designated when you registered for an account.

For alumni who do not currently have a valid "vanderbilt.edu" or "alumni.vanderbilt.edu" email address, please see below:

Access to the Bio Career Center (BCC) Jobs Board requires a valid "vanderbilt.edu" or "alumni.vanderbilt.edu" email address or verification that you are indeed an alumnus/alumna of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. If you try to apply for access to the Jobs Board without a current "vanderbilt.edu" or "alumni.vanderbilt.edu" address, you will receive an email from the Jobs Board administrator stating:

Thank you for registering at Bio Career Center.

The Bio Career Center Jobs Board is only available to students, Postdocs, or alumni from Consortium member institution programs. In order to approve applications to the Jobs Board, we require an email address from your institution. Please reply to this email with your "valid email address," and we will activate your account.

If you receive this email when you try to register for access, you have two options:

  1. Registration using a valid "vanderbilt.edu" or "alumni.vanderbilt.edu" address is preferred but not essential (see #2). All graduates of VUSM programs, as well as former house staff and clinical fellows, are eligible for an alumni email forwarding address; you can set up your alumni.vanderbilt.edu forwarding email through Vanderbilt's online alumni community site (Dore2Dore) at http://www.vanderbilt.edu/alumni/onlineserv.htm

or

  1. If you don't have a current "Vanderbilt.edu" address, and you do not want, or are not eligible (ex. former faculty members are considered medical alumni, but not recognized by Dore2Dore) for an "alumni.vanderbilt.edu" address, please reply to BCC's standard rejection email and explain when you were last affiliated with Vanderbilt and what your position was at that time (graduate student, medical student, postdoctoral fellow, resident/house staff, or clinical fellow). The BCC Jobs Board administrator should respond to you within 48 hours after the verification process is complete to grant you permission to access the BCC Jobs Board.

If you do not receive a reply from the BCC Jobs Board administrator, or if you experience additional delays or difficulties, please contact Dr.
