Travel Expenses
Funding for travel in the United States to present at scientific meetings
1. The medical school will fund up to 50% of total expenses for travel by individual students in the Emphasis Program provided:
(i) The student understands that priority for funding will be given to first-time presenters and,
(ii) The student provides a request for funding to the Emphasis Program prior to submission for presentation and,
(iii) The student’s proposal is accepted for presentation and,
(iv) Funds are available in the Emphasis Program budget.
2. Prior to submitting a request for funding from the Emphasis Program, the student must approach his or her mentor, and/or the department under which the student is working to seek sources of funding to cover 50% of the total expenses.
3. In the event that the department is unwilling or unable to provide financial support the student will be responsible for the remaining 50% of total expenses.
4. In special circumstances, students may appeal to the Emphasis Program for additional funding to cover the expenses that are the student’s responsibility.
5. Students are required to submit a tentative budget along with the request for funding prior to sending out a proposal for presentation.
6. The per diem will be $50, not including lodging or travel. There will not be reimbursement for alcohol.
7. Students will be asked to purchase the cheapest non-refundable fare. Side trips will not be covered.
8. Receipts are required for all charges.
