Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility for most programs is listed here. You must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen with a valid Social Security Number*.
  • Be registered with the Selective Service Administration if required to do so.
  • Be working toward a degree or certificate.
  • Be enrolled or accepted to enroll on at least a half-time basis as a "regular student".
  • Not be in default on any federal education loan or owe a refund on any federal grant.
  • Be in good academic standing and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  • Not have been convicted of drug distribution or possession.
  • Have not borrowed in excess of loan limits.
  • Have financial need as determined from the information you provide on the FAFSA.

*International Students:
International medical students may apply for institutional need-based funding by submitting the application forms, converting foreign dollars to U.S. dollars on the FAFSA to determine eligibility.

Alternative private loans are available to all international students and generally require a U.S. citizen or permanent resident who is willing to be a cosigner. A helpful website is www.edupass.org/finaid (Financial Aid for International Students).
