World Health Week
-- one of the highlights of the medical school calendar. World Health Week involves five days in March dedicated
to lectures, dinner meetings, and less formal gatherings with physicians who have insight into international health
from many different vocational backgrounds.
Monthly Brown Bag Lunches
-- lunch presentations primarily from globe trotting Vanderbilt medical students,
faculty, and staff on their
experiences and how you can get involved
Monthly Get-togethers
-- informal social events at different ethnic restaurants across Nashville as well as professors' homes to discuss current events, health
issues and policies, etc. We will have a facilitator for each gathering
(faculty, students, community member, Vanderbilt staff etc)
International Exchange
-- every year we host between five and ten European medical students from the
Karolinski Institute. This is a great opportunity to learn from our peers
across the pond and consider opportunities for reciprocal student exchange.
Community Service
-- the International Committee coordinates a variety of opportunities to serve at the hospital and in the community
including translation for patients, various medical and social opportunities with the large refugee community in
Nashville, and collecting supplies for international projects.
Overall Fellowships
-- medical students travel all over the world throughout their four years at Vanderbilt and, due to a generous grant from the Overall
family, we can help fund their program.
Special Events
-- Bi-yearly potlucks with international food and music; international
opportunities abroad luncheon; and more.
