Facilities
STP is part of the Center for Experiential Learning and Assessment. In October of 2007 the Simulation Technologies Program moved to a new 11,000+ sq. ft. facility, which encompasses the 3rd and 4th floors of MRB IV and includes the Program in Human Simulation.
STP is a 4500 sq. ft. on the 3rd floor and is centered around an 1,100 sq. ft. simulation suite for mannequin-based simulation with two complete control rooms. This allows two separate simulations to run simultaneously, as two O.R.s, for example. Conversely it could be configured to be run jointly as a six-bed ED, a four-bed ICU or PACU, or some combination of these. STP also has a VR training room, available 24/7 under card swipe access, equipped with the latest in virtual reality simulators and partial task trainers designed to train advanced medical procedures.
There is also a satellite facility in 4033 Medical Center East that is used for procedural training in surgery and OB/GYN and includes specific skill-based trainers as well as advanced VR simulators.
Vanderbilt Children's Hospital has both a Laerdal SimMan and a SimBaby. These computerized patient mannequins are configured to be mobile and are primarily used in an actual clinical space to enhance their realism.
Vanderbilt School of Nursing also has a SimMan and SimBaby housed in a temporary facility while their new Simulation Center is under construction. Their simulators are also mobile and can be set up in a variety of locations.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Learning Center is the main training facility for the Medical Center and is equipped with a variety of task trainers for the development of clinical skills.
