He worked in the MEDEX program (physician assistants) part-time from 1974-1979 while earning his doctorate in educational psychology at the University of Utah.
Dr. Petrusa’s research focuses on development of measures of learning outcomes. He consulted with the Medical Council of Canada as they developed the clinical performance component of the physician licensure testing in Canada. Dr. Petrusa was an inaugural member of National Board of Medical Examiners’ committee to develop a prototype that eventually became USMLE Step 2 CS. He believes that medical education can be more effective and more efficient and is committed to providing evidence to support this belief through research studies with Vanderbilt faculty.
