Bonnie attended the Colorado College for her undergraduate education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1976. She received her MD degree at the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1980. She then moved to Nashville for six years of post-graduate training in general surgery at Vanderbilt University Affiliated Hosptials. During this time, she spent 18 months doing basic research in surgical nutrition and the metabolic response to injury. After completing her residency, Bonnie traveled to Seattle for one year to undertake a fellowship in hepato-biliary disease at the Virginia Mason Clinic. Since 1987, Bonnie has been back in Nashville.
For eleven years, she served as a surgeon in private practice at one of the Vanderbilt affiliated teaching hospitals, where she worked with residents and students. She then spent one year working as a staff surgeon at the Nashville Veteran’s Administration Medical Center before assuming the role of Associate Dean for Medical Students at Vanderbilt in June 1999. Although she loved the triumphs and trials of student affairs, she was drawn to the challenges facing medical education in the 21st century, and moved to her current position in January 2005. Bonnie focused her clinical interests on patients with breast cancer. Her academic interests include the moral development of physicians and the structure and function of curriculum committees. She is married to Robert Miller, a pulmonologist who serves as medical director of Vanderbilt’s student-run free clinic, and through it all they’ve managed to raise three pretty cool children.

Tamie began her career at Vanderbilt in 1991. She worked in the billing department and as a float in the clinics before advancing to Medical Specialties as the assistant to the manager. In 2001 she transferred to the School of Medicine as the assistant to Bonnie Miller, Associate Dean for Medical Students. Tamie’s love of working with people made her a perfect match for this position as she worked with students and faculty. As the new medical school curriculum evolved, Dr. Miller was named Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education. A new office was created and Tamie moved to the office of UME with Bonnie Miller. Here she has taken on many new challenges, working with several committees including the Undergraduate Medical Education Committee, Emphasis Planning Committee and she also helps coordinate the Emphasis, Genetics and 3rd year Intersession Courses. As the new curriculum rolls out, she will support the UME Executive Committee and the sub committees that fall under this group.
Tamie is married with one daughter. She enjoys boating, camping, traveling and spending time with her family and pets. From a single rubber duck received at Cadaver Ball in 2003, Tamie now has “all of her ducks in a row” in her growing collection of 89 ducks at her office.
