Dr. Van Kaer came to Vanderbilt University in 1993. He is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. He received B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry from the University of Ghent in Belgium. He then did postdoctoral work in the laboratory of Dr. Susumu Tonegawa at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, where he studied the specificity of gd T cells and MHC class I- restricted antigen presentation. His current research focuses on antigen processing and T cell repertoire selection.
