Post Office Urges Leaving Mailbox Keys at Home for Vacation

The vacation season is nearly here, and many staff will be heading off to the mountains or the beach. If your department uses a key to access a mailbox, please be sure it doesn’t go along to join in your fun.

If there is only one key, the Vanderbilt Post Office recommends storing it in a central place rather than on anyone’s key ring. Even better, consider keeping a duplicate backup in case of emergencies. If there’s a combination lock instead, a copy of the combination should be stored in a manner that’s secure but available to authorized staff if needed.

These precautions will ensure that the mail keeps moving back home while everyone enjoys their well-deserved break.
