Message from the Chancellor: Fall Faculty Assembly, 4:10 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 25
Dear Faculty Colleagues,
I invite you to join me for Fall Faculty Assembly on Thursday, Aug. 25, at 4:10 p.m. in the Student Life Center Ballroom. David Weintraub, chair of the Faculty Senate, professor of Astronomy and director of Science, Humanities and Technology, will open the meeting with welcoming remarks.
Bob Whaley, Valere Blair Potter Professor of Management, will present "Financial Innovation." In this time of global economic uncertainty, this is without a doubt a timely and relevant topic. As a creator of the CBOE Volatility Index and the Alpha Indexes, Bob is a widely recognized expert in this area.
At the Fall Faculty Assembly we recognize excellence in research with the Chancellor’s Awards for Research and the Earl Sutherland Prize for Achievement in Research. With the brilliant minds of Vanderbilt faculty dedicated to seeking new knowledge and novel methods for applying existing information, the presentation of these awards is always an inspiring and affirming moment. It will also be my great privilege to present the Thomas Jefferson Award for distinguished service to the University.
Please mark your calendars to join me and your faculty colleagues for this gathering. After the assembly, I hope you will stay for the reception that will be held in the Board of Trust Room so we can continue our conversation and catch up on all of the summer’s happenings. I look forward to seeing you there and sharing your good company.
