Influenza Vaccine Now Available to Patients
Influenza vaccine is now available for Vanderbilt patients, and as influenza season approaches, VUMC would like to remind all providers about the importance of influenza vaccination for both our patients and employees. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends vaccination of everyone older than 6 months to protect themselves and their close contacts.
Also, all VUMC faculty, staff and volunteers should make sure they get vaccinated to protect their patients, families and themselves. This year, VUMC is trying to reach record heights with its influenza vaccination campaign. On Oct. 12, starting at 6 a.m., influenza vaccinations will be available as a part of an event called Flulapalooza.
Flulapalooza is a drill of the VUMC pandemic mass vaccination plan. In the event of a pandemic, this is the plan we would use to deliver life-saving vaccine or treatment to our employees and students. Our goal is ambitious: we will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most vaccines given in a single day. So please come and take a shot for the record.
Following Flulapalooza, the Occupational Health Clinic will still provide vaccine at numerous times and locations for the convenience of those who were unable to participate in the main event. Look for more news about Flulapalooza throughout September. Please see the Occupational Health Clinic's website at http://occupationalhealth.vanderbilt.edu for more information.
