"Memorial Madness" Event Planned for Friday, Oct. 14

Vanderbilt basketball fans hoping to get a sneak peek at the 2011-2012 men’s and women’s teams will get a chance to do so at "Memorial Madness" on Oct. 14, in Memorial Gym.

This event, celebrating the first official day of practice for both teams, will feature a meet-and-greet with both squads, special introductions, short scrimmages along with a three-point and slam dunk contest. Fans and students will also have a chance to participate in special giveaways and contests throughout the event.

Admission to “Memorial Madness” is free and doors will open at 8 p.m., with the team autograph sessions and meet and greets extending until 8:45 p.m. when the remainder of the festivities will begin. Parking will be available for free in the 25th Avenue garage as well as in the Medical Center lots located off of Natchez Trace.

Fans will have the opportunity to pick up the 2011-2012 schedule cards and posters for the first time at the event. Information will also be available on purchasing season and single game tickets.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams both enter the year with high expectations. Coach Kevin Stallings and the men’s team return the majority of their team from last year and will be anchored by the highly touted trio of John Jenkins, Jeffery Taylor and Festus Ezeli. On the women’s side, Head Coach Melanie Balcomb and the Commodores will feature a strong mix of youth and experience with junior Tiffany Clarke leading the way.
