Recruiting mothers who have experienced depression and have children
Vanderbilt's Stress and Coping Lab is doing a study about how mothers and their children communicate about stress, coping and emotions as well as how they solve problems together. We are looking for mothers who are either currently experiencing depression or have experienced depression in the past and who have at least one child between the ages of 9 and 15. Interested mothers will be interviewed over the phone for approximately 15-30 minutes to determine whether they are eligible.
Eligible mothers will be invited to come to our lab on the Peabody campus with one eligible child to complete questionnaires and in-person interviews and participate in three videotaped interactions where they will talk together about a recent stressful experience that they have had as well as a speech task. Mothers will also be asked to complete some additional surveys before coming in to our lab.
Families will be paid a total of $80 ($50 to the mother and $30 to the child) for completing all questionnaires, interviews and interactions and will each have the opportunity to earn a $10 gift card during one of the videotaped interactions.
