A message from David Posch, CEO of Vanderbilt Hospital and Clinics: Mitch Edgeworth named Chief Operating Officer of VUH
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mitch Edgeworth to the position of Chief Operating Officer, Vanderbilt University Hospital. Mitch comes to us with an MBA from Duke University and also holds bachelor's degrees in engineering science as well as industrial engineering from Lipscomb University and Georgia Tech respectively.
Mitch began his career as an industrial engineer with the Saturn Corporation and then joined Duke University Health System as a management engineer and manager of performance services, leading a number of improvement projects in inpatient operations.
After serving four years at Duke, Mitch joined Tenet Health system where he assumed progressively more responsibilities. Starting as a manager for operations improvement, he led efforts regarding performance analysis and strategic planning for performance improvement with a focus on staffing optimization. He also served as a Chief Operating Officer of a Tenet hospital, worked at Tenet headquarters where he served with the senior executive leadership team, and capped his career at Tenet as CEO of one of Tenet’s hospitals, achieving significant improvement in hospital performance across a balanced set of objectives in quality, service and economics.
After seven years with Tenet, Mitch joined Community Health System, where for the past three years he has served as a Regional Vice President for Quorum Health Resources. In this role, Mitch has overseen the operational performance and strategic objectives of 12 hospitals.
Mitch is from Nashville, and I know you will join me in welcoming him, along with his wife, Kim, and their four children. He will begin his new role with VUH on June 1, 2012.
