Medical Center Staff Advisory Council organizing book drive for children
The Medical Center Staff Advisory Council is organizing a book drive for the Jo’s Reach Out & Read (Books from Birth) book club, a program at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Donations are needed for children up to 5 years old. New or gently used books may be brought to the Vanderbilt Auxiliary Gift Shop on the mezzanine level of VUH or Children's Services Administration, suite 2410 of Children's Hospital.
Children’s Hospital pediatricians give books to children during clinic visits, giving parents instructions to “read to your child every day." The club was founded in 2000 in memory of Johanna Swan, daughter of Vanderbilt pediatrician Rebecca Swan, M.D., and her husband, Michael, and is a local chapter of a national literacy effort. The books collected will go directly to local children in need.
