Junior faculty invited to grant workshop Wednesday, Sept. 19

“How to succeed in times of NIH funding stress,” a workshop for junior faculty members in the biomedical sciences, will be held Sept. 19 at Meharry Medical College.

Speakers are Ann Bonham, Ph.D., chief scientific officer of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and Richard McGee, Jr., Ph.D., associate dean at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

The workshop will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in room 1206 of the West Basic Sciences Building at the corner of 21st Ave. N. and Meharry Boulevard. A wine and cheese reception will follow.

The workshop is open to Vanderbilt faculty members. There is no charge but registration is encouraged. E-mail Stephanie Russell in the Meharry School of Graduate Studies and Research at srussell1@mmc.edu.

The workshop will be held the day before the joint annual meeting of the AAMC Groups on Research Advancement and Development (GRAND) and Graduate Research Education and Training (GREAT) in Nashville Sept. 20-22.

GRAND helps medical schools and hospitals develop and conduct biomedical research, whereas GREAT promotes quality Ph.D. and postdoctoral biomedical training programs.
