Message from Deputy Vice Chancellor Pinson regarding pursuit of Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence Award

Colleagues,

One of VUMC’s important Quality Pillar goals for 2013 is the pursuit of a Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence (TNCPE) Award. Such achievement is a worthy milestone as we continue our journey toward organizational excellence.

The TNCPE award is based on criteria established by Malcolm Baldrige and is a prerequisite for VUMC to advance toward the National Baldrige Quality Award for Organizational Excellence. In late June, we submitted our organization’s application to the TNCPE and were awarded a site visit.

Today, Tuesday, Oct. 9, and tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 10, examiners from the TNCPE will be on our campus for this site visit. The site visit will provide examiners the opportunity to better understand our organization, including our challenges, culture, environment and improvement processes.

Our goal is to obtain comprehensive assessment and feedback on our performance in each of the Baldrige categories: 1) Leadership, 2) Strategic Planning, 3) Customer Focus, 4) Measurement/Analysis/Knowledge Management, 5) Workforce Focus, 6) Operations Focus, and 7) Results.

David Posch and Luke Gregory are the executive sponsors for the TNCPE Site Visit. Nancye Feistritzer, Mitch Edgeworth, Racy Peters and Jenny Slayton are pavilion sponsors for the site visit. Susie Leming-Lee, a TNCPE examiner herself, is coordinating the visit. Manuel Benegas, who also serves as TNCPE Board member, is the internal advisor to the TNCPE process and an ongoing resource for VUMC.

Please join with me in welcoming the TNCPE examiners’ team to our organization. I encourage each of you to provide our visitors with your expertise regarding VUMC’s operations and culture as we continue our journey toward excellence.

Please contact Susie Leming-Lee, David Posch, Luke Gregory, Nancye Feistritzer, Mitch Edgeworth, Racy Peters, Jenny Slaton or Manny Benegas who are all actively involved/sponsors of this effort, if you have further questions about the site visit.

Sincerely,
