Medical interpreter Darien Mejia wins essay contest

VUMC medical interpreter Darien Mejia is one of the winners of the International Medical Interpreters Association's 2014 Essay Contest.

Her winning essay, written on the provided topic, "Why Medical Interpreter Education is Key to Professionalism," won her a complimentary registration to IMIA's annual conference in Houston.

Mejia, a nationally certified medical interpreter, has been a full time Spanish medical interpreter at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt since 2007.
