Diabetes Day set for Friday, Nov. 21

Cutting-edge diabetes research will be showcased Friday, Nov. 21, at Vanderbilt University’s annual Diabetes Day in the Student Life Center.

The Irwin Eskind Diabetes Scholars Awards and Robert K. Hall Service Award also will be presented during the day-long meeting, which is sponsored by the Vanderbilt Diabetes Research and Training Center and the Vanderbilt Center for Diabetes Translation Research.

Keynote speakers will be Mark Atkinson, Ph.D., director of the University of Florida Diabetes Institute in Gainesville, and William Herman, M.D., M.P.H., director of the Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center at the University of Michigan.

Atkinson’s talk is entitled, “Rewriting the textbooks on how type 1 diabetes develops,” and Herman will discuss “Real world challenges of diabetes prevention.”
